Twyford Community Centre - April Events
We are delighted to report that the Twyford Community Centre volunteers have been awarded a Mayor of Winchester's Community Award for service to the people of the Winchester District. We were nominated by Simon Harcourt-Williams. He and four representatives of our volunteers attended the awards ceremony hosted at Winchester Guildhall in March. We know that our volunteers work tirelessly to support TCC, but it is very heart-warming to have their work acknowledged.
You may recall that we planned to establish a Village Archive at the Community Centre. We held a meeting on Monday, 2 March, to discuss what we would like to do and to re-form a local history group. Graham Hill and Vicki Dunlop explained their aims and the sources of funding available. The meeting was very well attended with more than 30 attend-ing and another 20 people, who could not attend, offering ideas or pro-jects
With a view to creating one organisation, to pull resources together under one roof and to coordinate so much research that has already been undertaken, we would like to invite all interested people who have documents, recordings, photographs, maps, etc. to contact us with the aim of adding those to an already impressive collection of assets.
We will then catalogue and copy items, with a long term aim of having a website so that anyone wishing to do research can do so remotely and to protect all of this information for generations to come. Everything given to us for copying will be returned to the owner, who may, if they desire, lodge the originals in the Hampshire Record Office
We will have a follow up meeting in the future and those people who have offered to help will be contacted shortly.
If you are interested in helping or have a project that you would like to undertake, please contact Graham Hill at twyfordcommunitycentre@gmail.com or Vicki Dunlop at vickidunlop@live.co.uk
Our next Monday night talk will be on Monday, 20 April, 7pm for a 7:30pm start and entitled 'Pre-Raphaelites: A whistle-stop tour through the work, lives and influences of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Join Dr Alastair Eales for an evening of art-historical exploration into England's first self-consciously radical artistic movement.
All of these talks are free to attend, but we would encourage donations to enable TCC to be able to run these events. A bar will be open at all of these talks.
Soup lunches: Due to bank holidays ahead, the last two lunches will be on Monday, 13 April, and Monday, 11 May. These lunches will then stop for the summer and restart in September.
